National Kickball Association Rules

  1. Helping you get lucky rule: All teams are required two members of the opposite sex on the field at all times.
    1. 1.1 If a team does not have 2 members of the opposite sex playing, 1 member of the primary sex must sit out per absent member of the opposite sex.
    2. 1.2 A team can start play with 5 players. If any players arrive after the start time they must be added at the end of the kicking line-up.
  2. No more than 9 players on the field; you must field a catcher at all times.
  3. The kicker (or Mohafa) is allowed to request speed and texture of roll.
  4. Kicking lineup = 9 or more; you don’t have to play the field to kick but you must kick in the same order throughout the game.
    1. 4.1 A kicking lineup must be submitted to the umpire before the start of each game.
    2. 4.2 Due to no numbered uniforms this is partially based on the honor system. If the umpire deems your team kicked out of order then the kicker is out and any base runners must return to their past base.
  5. Ground rule double is honored.
  6. Ghost runners are not honored.
  7. No leading off the bases.
    1. 7.1 The base runner leading off will be ruled out.
    2. 7.2 If the ball is kicked while the base runner is leading off then the kicker will have to re-kick and any base runners who were not leading off will return to their previous base.
  8. When kicking you must not kick the ball before it reaches home plate.
    1. 8.1 Kicking the ball before it reaches home plate will result in an out for the kicker, and any base runners who advanced on the kick will return to their previous base.
  9. No bunts (ball must be able to reach mound). Any kicked ball determined to be a bunt by the umpire will be ruled as a foul ball.
  10. Throwing ball at runner is permitted.
  11. 3 outs per inning.
  12. 3 fouls is an out.
  13. Mound is out.
    1. 13.1 Only for the runner advancing to first base.
    2. 13.2 Also, on a caught ball you may throw to the mound for a double play if the runner has not returned to their past base. If there is more than one base runner then going to the mound will only force out the lead runner but you may also go to the previous base of a non-lead runner to force them out.
    3. 13.3 On a caught ball if a base runner has advanced past their next base then when returning to their original base they must retouch the base they just advanced past in order to not be forced out.
  14. 5 innings per game.
  15. 10 run rule limit per inning.
  16. 12 run limit at the end of 3rd inning to win the game.
  17. The “Kirk Clause” - if the game is tied at the end of regulation 2 players will be removed from defense every inning thereafter (this is an own team decision).
  18. If ump is sober enough to know the infield fly rule he can call it.
  19. Championship – (for double-elimination tournament only) will be the undefeated team coming from the winners bracket versus the champion, one-loss team coming from the losers bracket.
    1. 19.1 If the one-loss team from the losers bracket defeats the team from the winners bracket then there will be a second game to determine the champion. The undefeated team is only required to defeat the one-loss team once in order to be crowned champion.
  20. The Championship game(s) will be 5 innings.
  21. Ump’s decision is final.
  22. No disputes over the call of the game after the players have left the field.
  23. NO RAINOUTS. Lightning may cause a delay or postponement.
  24. Forfeits
    1. A team forfeits their game if they are not present with 5 or more players at their scheduled start time.
  25. The National Kickball Association reserves the right to update these rules without prior notice.
  26. Don’t be a poor sport! Have fun! Remember this is just kickball.
